Orthodox Easter
Good Friday processions wind through Chora's lanes, candles are lit at the midnight Resurrection service, and Easter Sunday means lamb on the spit. Easter Sunday is 2 May 2027.
XLSIOR Festival

- 28 Oct 2026 Ochi Day — national holiday; flags, a school parade in Chora, banks and many shops closed.
- 24 & 31 Dec Carols in Chora — groups with lanterns and a model boat sing Mykonian and Delian carols, led by the Women's Cultural Folklore Association (aegeanislands.gr).
- 6 Jan 2027 Epiphany — the blessing of the waters at the Old Port, followed by the Balosia folk celebration.
- 15 Mar 2027 Clean Monday — first day of Lent: kites, picnics and Lenten feasts. National holiday.
- 25 Mar 2027 Independence Day — church services and a parade. National holiday.

Panigyria: the village feast days
Mykonos is dotted with small chapels, many said to have been built by families or sailors in thanks for a safe voyage. Each celebrates its saint's day with a service and, at the bigger ones, a panigyri: food, wine and music for the whole village. Visitors are welcome if they behave as guests.
- Dress: cover shoulders and knees at services.
- Etiquette: ask before photographing people; join the line for food and offer to pay or donate.
- Find one: ask your hotel or watch for posters in Chora and Ano Mera — dates are local and often announced late.

Do you need tickets?
Religious feasts and national holidays are free. For club nights and festival parties, buy only from the venue's or organiser's official channels, and be wary of resale offers. Sights keep fixed prices on holidays, but museums and archaeological sites may close or shorten hours on 25 March, Easter and 28 October — check the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades before you go.

Is Mykonos good at Easter?
Yes, if you want tradition rather than beaches. Holy Week brings candlelit processions on Good Friday and the midnight Resurrection service, followed by Easter Sunday feasts. Many hotels and restaurants open for Easter, but the sea is cool and beach clubs are usually not yet running.
What happens in Mykonos in winter?
A quieter, local island: Christmas and New Year carols in Chora's lanes, the blessing of the waters at the Old Port on 6 January, and Clean Monday kites in March. Many hotels, bars and beach clubs close from November to April, and ferry schedules are reduced.
