Biggest cost

Accommodation

White rural villa with a terrace on Mykonos
Location and month drive the price more than stars
  • Hostel bed or simple room: about €40–80 a night, mostly around Paraga and Paradise.
  • Mid-range double: about €120–280 a night; Ornos, Platis Gialos and Ano Mera can be better value than Chora.
  • Five-star hotels and villas: from several hundred euros a night, far more in August.

The single biggest saving is the calendar: the same room in mid-June or mid-September often costs much less than in the first half of August. See where to stay for areas.

Watch the small print: many Mykonos hotels take non-refundable deposits for July and August, and Greece adds a per-night climate resilience fee for every room, usually paid at check-in. Ask what is included — breakfast, transfers, sunbeds — before comparing prices.

Food

Eating and drinking

Souvlaki with pita and tzatziki €

Cheap eats

A souvlaki wrap or a bakery pie is the cheapest hot meal on the island. Supermarkets near Fabrika cover picnics.

Dinner table with a view of Little Venice €€

Taverna dinner

About €25–50 per person before wine and fish by the kilo. The lanes of Chora beat the waterfront for value.

Psarou beach, home of Nammos €€€

Beach clubs & cocktails

Famous beach-club lunches and sunset cocktails are where budgets break. Ask the minimum spend in advance.

Coffee is about €3–5 in Chora — the seat is included. Most hotels advise bottled water for drinking, so budget for it.

Ten ways to spend less

Travel in June or September

Same sea, same sights, lower room rates and minimum spends.

Use the bus

About €2 a ride to the main beaches and the airport, against scarce, metered taxis.

Free sand

Every beach is public; lay a towel beside the sunbeds instead of renting one.

Free sunsets

The windmills and the Kastro cost nothing; Little Venice tables cost a cocktail.

Eat like a local

Souvlaki, bakeries and village tavernas in Ano Mera — skip the waterfront menus.

Self-cater some meals

Breakfast and beach picnics from the supermarket save €20+ a day.

Sleep outside Chora

Ornos, Platis Gialos and Ano Mera often cost less than the old town for a similar room — and buses link them all.

Beach-hop by water taxi

One day pass covers the south-coast bays, cheaper than taxis between beaches.

Pay in euros

At ATMs and card terminals, always choose to be charged in euros, not your home currency — the conversion rate is worse.

Read every bill

Check for bread, water and service charges, agree the price of fish by the kilo, and keep receipts.

Common questions

Budget questions

Is Mykonos expensive?

Yes — it is one of the most expensive Greek islands. A mid-range double is about €120–280 a night, a taverna dinner €25–50 and a coffee €3–5, with peak weeks higher. Sights are cheap by comparison: the Archaeological Museum is €5 and Delos €20, and the windmills and beaches are free.

How much money do I need for 3 days in Mykonos?

Per person, excluding flights, plan on roughly €240–420 on a budget, €540–960 mid-range and €1,350 or more for a luxury stay, based on our 2026 daily bands. Add the Delos boat and site ticket (about €45), and more for beach clubs in July and August.

What is the cheapest time to visit Mykonos?

Late April, May and October have the lowest prices while most venues are open; from November to March prices are lowest of all but many hotels, restaurants and beach clubs are closed and ferries are fewer. For summer weather at lower prices, choose June or September.
