Quiet luxury or party Mykonos?

Sunset over the Aegean from Little Venice
Sunset in Little Venice, the island's daily ritual

Mykonos does both, a few kilometres apart. The party lives on the south-coast beaches of Paradise and Super Paradise and in the lanes of Chora after midnight. The quiet side is the villas of the east and north, long lunches at Kalo Livadi or Agios Ioannis, and the wild northern beaches on a calm day.

  • For a calm trip: June or September, a base in Ornos or Ano Mera, Delos in the morning.
  • For the scene: July–August, Chora, and the beach clubs of Paraga and Psarou.
  • Culture: Delos, the Archaeological Museum and the Tourliani monastery in Ano Mera.

When

When French travellers should go

June and September

The best balance: about 26 °C, warm sea, open venues and prices below the summer peak.

July–August

Full season and the French summer holidays: book flights and rooms early, expect the meltemi wind.

Late spring and October

Calm and cheaper; some beach clubs and hotels are still closed.

A first three days: Chora, the windmills and a Little Venice sunset; a morning on Delos and an afternoon at Agios Ioannis; then a south-coast beach day by water taxi. See our itineraries.

Paraga beach with sunbeds and tavernas Beach

South-coast day

Paraga, Paradise or Psarou — water taxis link the bays in summer.

Budget and booking tips

Documents

A valid French ID card or passport is enough. Bring your CEAM (European Health Insurance Card) and travel insurance.

Budget

About €80–140 a day on a budget and €180–320 mid-range, before flights (Visit Mykonos estimates, Oct 2026). Beach-club minimum spends are where budgets break.

Book ahead

For July and August, book rooms and the famous beach-club beds early; taxis are scarce, so pre-book airport transfers.

Language

English is spoken everywhere; French less so. A kaliméra and an efcharistó go a long way.

Common questions

France → Mykonos questions

How do I fly to Mykonos from France?

In season, Air France flies from Paris Charles de Gaulle, Transavia from Paris Orly and Lyon, and easyJet from Nice — about three hours. Out of season, fly to Athens and connect with Aegean Airlines or Sky Express, or take a ferry from Piraeus or Rafina. Check current schedules with each airline.

Where should French travellers stay in Mykonos?

On a first trip, Chora: everything is walkable and buses run to the beaches. For a beach holiday, Ornos or Agios Ioannis; for calm and better value, Ano Mera or the east coast with a car. Compare the areas on our where-to-stay page.

Is Mykonos only for nightlife?

No. The party is concentrated on a few south-coast beaches and in Chora's lanes at night. The rest of the island offers family beaches, quiet villages, Delos and wild northern coves. Choose June or September and a base outside Chora for a calmer trip.

When is the best time to visit Mykonos from France?

June and September offer the best balance: warm sea, beach clubs and boats to Delos running, and lower prices than July and August, when the French summer holidays fill flights. Late May and early October are cheaper still, but some hotels and beach clubs are closed.
